We hope this message finds you all doing well. We know there are many questions surrounding what school will look like this Fall. We do not yet have all the answers, but hope to provide the updates we do have in this email. Please read through to the end and take a look at the attached documents and links, as there are some important updates about the beginning of the school year. You will find the following information:

Intent to Return Form:
First, we would like to ask families to fill out the Intent to Return Form found here. We would normally share this with families throughout the Spring as we admit new families to our school. However, because of the great deal of uncertainty for many, we are sharing this now as a means to get any updated information from families. If you know that you will not be returning with us next year, please let us know on this survey and fill out our online withdrawal form. We do know that many are not fully decided on what their plans will be, and there is a space to reflect this in the survey and provide us information on your current situation. Retrieving Scholar Items from School:
If you believe any of your scholar’s items from the 19-20 school year are still in the building, please fill out this form so we may attempt to locate these items on your behalf once the school building is open again.
In terms of updated health information for the 20-21 school year, please thoroughly review the attached “AFCHES Medical Letter 20-21” for detailed information. This document includes information on requirements for Immunization Records, Health Examination Forms, IEP and 504 Forms (for Diabetes, Asthma, Allergies or Medications). These forms are due by the first day of school on Wednesday, September 2nd and can be submitted in person on this day, via fax 718-504-4742 or via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please take time to review these documents as there is further important information about what these forms must include. (All forms can be found under the “20-21 School Year Resources” Post)
While we will have further, and much more detailed, information on health precautions in the weeks to come, we wanted to share with you what we do know at this point:
- There will be thermometers for temperature checks of all people entering the building.
- Everyone will be required to wear a mask in the building.
- There will be hand sanitizer stations in every room and in all common spaces.
- Face shields will be used by more visible staff members.
- Social distancing will be in place, with no more than 15 bodies in a classroom.
We are still waiting on DOE and state guidance on what bussing will look like next year. Once we have that information we will be sure to share with you ASAP.
Finally, you will be hearing from our new principal, Dr. Sade Johnson, by Friday July 31st. She will be sending out a survey to ask parents about their preference for remote versus in person learning for their scholar.
We know that there are many more questions to answer and we will provide as much information as possible as soon as we can. To this end, Dr. Johnson will also be holding a virtual town hall the week of July 27th to discuss next year and what it will look like with families. The exact date and time of this event will be shared in the coming weeks.
